Good to Know
It comes down to how far away the letters will be read from. Sans-serif type reads better at a distance, high contrast between the letters and the wall behind them matters more than the color itself, and leaving 30 to 40 percent of the area as negative space keeps the wording easy to take in. For standard information signage we mount at around 60 inches, at eye level.
Yes. Indoors we favor matte finishes so overhead lighting does not throw glare across the lettering. Outdoors we specify durable materials such as ACM or aluminum, and UV-resistant inks wherever printed color is involved.
Illuminated letters are specified as UL-listed LED. Arkansas Act 1188 of 2009 requires the electrical work to be performed by a technician holding a specialist sign electrician license, and Seiz Sign Company holds that license.
